03.16Le’Coe Willingham Joins Phoenix Mercury

Phoenix Mercury made an offer to restricted free agent, Le’Coe Willingham who has played for the Connecticut Sun since 2004. The Sun declined to match the offer saying that it was a basketball and financial decision for Willingham to think of her long term career.
“She will have the opportunity to play a lot more minutes with a guaranteed contract in Phoenix. We just couldn’t justify matching the contract. She has been an important part of our success, but sometimes there are players that need to make a move for the long term. We wish her success,” says Sun Coach Mike Thibault.
Willingham, a 6-foot reserve forward, averaged 2.2 points and 2 rebounds in 98 games over four years. Last season she averaged 2.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 28 games, including five starts
